The Class 5A fourth-ranked Valley High School varsity volleyball team hosted the Marj White Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Valley Fieldhouse.
The Tigers placed second at the invite, going 4-1 on the day. Ankeny finished in first, followed by Waukee in third, Dowling Catholic in fourth, Fort Dodge in fifth, and Des Moines Lincoln in sixth.

Valley earned 2-0 victories over Fort Dodge (21-9, 21-9) and Des Moines Lincoln (21-7, 21-8). The Tigers recorded 2-1 wins over No. 2 Dowling Catholic 21-17, 18-21, 15-13) and No. 5 Waukee (10-21, 21-18, 9-15).
Valley fell to No. 3 Ankeny 2-1 in the invitational’s championship match. Set scores were 19-23, 23-21, 9-15. In that match, sophomore Hayden Kubik posted a team-high eight kills. Kubik and junior Payton Lombardi notched a team-high 11 digs, and senior Olivia Curry tallied a team-high nine assists.
So far this season, Kubik leads the team (and Class 5A) with 103 kills, averaging 4.12 kills per set. Curry leads the team with 113 assists, averaging 4.52 per set. Lombardi leads Valley in digs with 60, and senior Jacey Spann leads the team in blocks with 12.
Valley (9-3) will continue the season on Tuesday, Sept. 10, when it hosts Des Moines Hoover. The match is slated to start at 5 p.m.
