Boys Varsity Track · Valley’s Trygstad Named Central Section Boys’ Track Coach Of Year By NFHS

Tom Trygstad

Congratulations to Valley High School varsity boys’ track and field coach Tom Trygstad, who was selected as the 2018-19 central section boys’ outdoor track and field coach of the year by the National Federation of State High School Associations, the NFHS announced Friday, Jan. 3.

Trygstad, who teaches social studies at Indian Hills Junior High, is also the head coach of Valley’s boys’ and girls’ cross country programs. He led the Tigers to their third straight boys’ track and field state title last May.

Honorees for the NFHS Coaches Association award were selected based upon their performance in the 2018-19 school year, lifetime community involvement, school involvement, and philosophy of coaching, the NFHS said.

Last May, Trygstad was named the 2019 All-Iowa boys’ track and field coach of the year by the Des Moines Register. He was also honored in July as the Iowa boys’ high school coach of the year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Valley varsity boys’ track team will kick off its 2020 season on Tuesday, March 10, at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. View the full season schedule.

Congratulations, Coach Trygstad!
