The Valley High School varsity boys’ basketball team had five players earn all-conference recognition for their efforts this past season.
Senior Jake Auer, junior Ty Walker, and sophomore Eli Raridon were named first team all-CIML Iowa, and seniors Drew Jirak and Grant Rieker collected honorable mention honors.
Auer, a unanimous selection, finished the 2019-20 season as the Tigers’ top scorer, averaging 17.2 points per game — fourth-best in the conference. He shot nearly 47 percent from the field, 41 percent from behind the arc and 88 percent from the charity stripe. His team-high 82 assists ranks third in the CIML Iowa, and his team-high 38 steals is fourth-best in the conference.
Additionally, Auer broke the school’s single-season record for made 3-pointers, finishing the year with 72 made 3-pointers. The previous record was was 62 (Kale Abrahamson, 2010-11).
Walker, also a unanimous selection, averaged 14.1 points per game — sixth-best in the conference. He shot about 44 percent from the field, 35 percent from 3-point territory and almost 84 percent from the free-throw line.
Raridon was Valley’s top rebounder this past season. He recorded a total of 152 rebounds, averaging 6.9 per game, which is third-best in the CIML Iowa. His 13 points per game ranked third on the team, shooting nearly 60 percent from the field. He also finished the season with 12 blocks.
Rieker averaged 5.2 points per game, and Jirak with 4.6 Rieker’s 49 assists ranked second on the team, and Jirak’s 46 put him in fourth. Jirak also averaged a team-second-best 4.6 boards per game.
Valley finished the year with a 16-7 overall record and went 8-2 in conference play during the regular season. Head coach B.J. Windhorst also recorded the his 100th victory as Valley’s head coach during the regular season.
