UPDATE (August 3): The August 5-6 Tiger Select basketball tryouts for incoming eighth-graders will be postponed until November, with the hopes of having an abbreviated season after the holidays.
We have decided it is in the best interest of the program to get our kids back in school first, see how that transition goes, and go from there. With the surge in COVID-19 cases in Iowa, we are in an uncertain time right now — keeping a lot of things very much in question. This also gives players the opportunity to try out for an AAU program if they wish in the meantime.
Our goal is to have a Tiger Select season after the holiday break, and we will work with schedules to make it viable to do both if a player is also on an AAU team. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you all for your understanding and stay safe and healthy.
ORIGINAL: Incoming eighth-graders who are serious about basketball can try out for the Valley Tiger Select boys’ basketball team.
Here is what you need to know:
- When: Aug. 5-6, 6-7:30 p.m. (you attend both nights)
- Where: Valley High School—Fieldhouse
- Cost: Free Tryout
- What: Two teams of 8-10 kids chosen will practice two times during the week starting in late October through early February. During that time, teams will also play about eight competitive tournaments on weekends. This runs adjacent to the school program so kids WILL NOT have to choose which team they play for, they can do both. In January and February, the Tiger Select teams will practice once a week outside of daily school basketball practices.
This is not an AAU program — this is a true Valley High School feeder program. The selected players begin learning the Valley system and language that is used in the high school program through the practices. Please note that not everyone who tries out will be chosen.
