Tigers News · Spectator Guidelines for WDMCS Fall Sports

The Central Iowa Metropolitan League, based upon guidance received from Governor’s Office of the State of Iowa, the Iowa Department of Education, the Iowa Department of Public Health, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, and the Iowa High School Athletic Association, released its procedures for spectator admission to the CIML member school fall sports seasons.

Sports played in the fall include: Boys’ golf, cross country (boys and girls), football, girls’ swimming and diving, and volleyball.

These procedures were developed by the 18 member schools, which includes Valley High School, to help ensure that participants, staff, and spectators can safely enjoy sports in a manner that promotes social distancing.

Here is what you should know as it relates to fall sports at the West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS):

Face Coverings

Students, staff, and spectators must wear a face covering at all times. This is in line with WDMCS’ current Return-to-Learn mitigation strategiesGuests will not be granted entry into events without a face covering.

Seating/Ticket Policies for WDMCS Athletics Events

In order to promote social distancing, admission to events will be limited like this past summer’s baseball and softball seasons. Valley will distribute the following allotted number of tickets to each student in uniform at all levels:

  • Volleyball: Vouchers (two spectators per player at each level)
  • Girls’ Swimming & Diving: No spectators
  • Boys’ Golf: No restrictions
  • Cross Country: Two spectators per student in uniform (recommended)
  • Football: Vouchers (three spectators per player at each level excluding freshman football; freshman football is open to families due to roster size.)
  • Cheer: Three spectators per cheerleader
  • Dance: Three spectators per dancer
  • Band: Three spectators per musician

These vouchers will allow individuals to pay admission to gain entrance for the contest. The voucher only allows an individual to purchase admission, has no cash value, and may only be used at the venue and event listed. Ticket gates will open at least 60 minutes prior to the start of each contest.

If your sport/activity requires vouchers, DO NOT arrive to an event if you did not receive a voucher. General public tickets WILL NOT be available.

Concessions will be open, with sealed and pre-packaged items available for purchase.

Spectators are not allowed to bring their own coolers into the facilities.

Student Activity Tickets & Booster Club Passes

As previously mentionedWDMCS has temporarily suspended the sale of Student Activity Tickets (SATs). The 18-member schools of our league, the Central Iowa Metropolitan League (CIML), voted that SATs will not be honored at home or away athletic events.

Students who already have an SAT or families who have purchased a pass from the Valley Tiger Booster Club AND receive one of the uniformed players’ tickets for distribution can use their SAT/Booster Club pass for admission into the event. This is for home events ONLY.

Families who purchased a SAT for their student can request a refund. Please contact your school in order to do so.

Due to limited spectator attendance, WDMCS is collaborating with Central Iowa Sports Network for livestream viewing. Only HOME VARSITY events are being considered through CISN, but coaches at other levels may provide a different resource for their student-athletes and families. Links to all home varsity livestreams will be made available on ValleyTigers.com and CISN.tv.

Beginning Sept. 1, livestreams for varsity football, girls’ swimming, and volleyball will be free. Due to technical difficulties experienced during the Friday, Aug. 28 livestream of Des Moines Roosevelt vs. Valley varsity football, those who purchased access for the game will be refunded in full by CISN.

Please contact CISN if you have any questions or need support.
