The Valley High School varsity boys’ cross country team and the Valley varsity girls’ cross country team participated at the 46th Bobcat Invitational in Marshalltown on Thursday, Sept. 10.
The Valley girls’ program, which went into Thursday’s race ranked as the No. 4 team in Class 4A per the Iowa Track Coaches Association’s latest program rankings, placed second from the nine-team field, totaling 88 points. Johnston won the meet with three top-10 finishers and a score of 40, and Ankeny Centennial took third with a mark of 93.
Senior Lauren Schulze (ranked 15th in 4A) placed second individually, running the course in a time of 18:36.6. Freshman Addison Dorenkamp was the other Valley runner to place within the top 10, finishing seventh at 19:24.8. View full results from the girls’ competition >
The Valley boys’ program placed seventh from the nine-team field. Ankeny Centennial won the meet, with four runners placining inside the top 10 and totaling a team score of 40 points. Johnston placed second at 47 team points, and Ankeny in third at 127.
Valley senior Adam Hisel led the Tigers by placing 19th in the race. He finished the course with a time of 17:19.5. View full results from the boys’ competition >
