Varsity Volleyball · Three Tigers Nab All-State Honors By IGCA


Three Valley High School varsity volleyball team members collected Class 5A all-state honors, the Iowa Girls Coaches Association announced Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Junior Hayden Kubik was named elite all-state. Senior Payton Lombardi and sophomore Olivia Lombardi picked up honorable mention all-state recognition.

Kubik ranked second in all of 5A with 342 kills. She also notched a team-second-best 193 digs, and ranked third for the Tigers with 25 blocks. Payton Lombardi recorded 176 digs, 102 kills, and 11 blocks. Olivia Lombardi posted a team-high 257 digs. Additionally, during the regular season, Kubik and Payton Lombardi joined 1,000 career clubs: Kubik with 1,000 kills and Lombardi with 1,000 digs.

Earlier in the week, the three Tigers were named to the IGCA’s 5A all-district west team.

Led by 11th-year head coach Jeremy Mikesell, Valley finished the 2020 season with a 19-7 record. The Tigers qualified for the 5A state tournament for the fifth straight year, and it was the 11th state tournament berth in program history.
