Tigers News · Family Week Info for WDMCS High School Students, Coaches

The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) announced a new “Family Week” period appearing in Iowa’s Unified Activity Federation calendar for the first time in 2020-21.

Here’s what this means for West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) students and staff:

  • Family Week will run from Sunday, July 25, through Sunday, Aug. 1.
    • The Iowa high school state baseball tournament is exempt from this year’s non-contact period, the IHSAA said.
  • All WDMCS high school students, including incoming ninth-graders, and coaches/activity sponsors will not have contact during this timeframe on or off school district property.
    • This includes any activity part of the IHSAA, IGHSAU, the Iowa High School Music Association (IHSMA), and the Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) — all of which comprise Iowa’s Unified Activity Federation.
  • The use of school facilities is prohibited during this eight-day period.
